Show Your Support as Expansion Project Approaches Critical Milestone
The San Diego Convention Center Phase III Expansion Project has reached a critical point in its progression and requests your support. On October 9 or 10, 2013, the California Coastal Commission, at its San Diego meeting, will consider adopting the San Diego Unified Port District Port Master Amendment for the expansion of the convention center and the Hilton Bayfront Hotel (Expansion). After a multi-year planning process, the hearing stands to be the last major permitting milestone requiring approval for the project to move forward.
As a regionally-significant and environmentally-sustainable project, the expansion will benefit visitors to the California coast, meeting planners and residents of the San Diego region. Upon approval, the proposed project would increase public access to the waterfront, activate an underutilized part of the downtown waterfront, meet the demand for additional meeting space, put thousands of San Diegans back to work and generate new much-needed tax revenues for the region. If you are one of the millions who will benefit from this project, we encourage you to show your support in the following ways.
How to help make this project a reality:
1. Endorse the expansion by filling out an endorsement card.
2. Send a letter of support to the California Coastal Commission.
3. Attend and consider speaking at the upcoming California Coastal Commission hearing on October 9/10 in San Diego.
The current proposal to expand the center is the culmination of a multi-year planning process that involved citizens, organizations and elected officials from across San Diego. The expansion has been thoroughly vetted at dozens of public outreach meetings over the last five years. It represents a strong, unified and collaborative effort between the City of San Diego, Port of San Diego, San Diego Convention Center Corporation, hotel developers, community residents and visiting stakeholders from across the region and State of California.
